“We have now also a completely paperless documentation of anesthesia,” explains Priv.- Doz..

Dr. Marko Fiege,
Chief physician of the clinic for anaesthesiology.

The Requirement

Paperless documentation through hygienic iPads have many advantages in the hospital Itzehoe – they are a special case they belong to the hospital’s everyday life much like a stethoscope and syringe:

iPads are indispensable in the hospital Itzehoe.

For several years, tablet computers have been in use – and within all areas, from the operating room about the recovery room to intensive care. The devices are also used by the service assistants to take food orders for example.

For the mobile “iMedOne” application all necessary data from the laboratory values up to X-Ray images are available on the iPad. Also wound documentation with photos can additionally be carried out and services such as x-rays or an ECG may be seen.

The Solution

“We have now also a completely paperless documentation of anesthesia,” explains Priv.-Doz..

Dr. Marko Fiege, chief physician of the clinic for anaesthesiology. The anaesthesia protocol moves via iPad with the patient from the preliminary anaesthesia, operation and in the recovery room.

The benefits for the Chief Medical Officer on hand are:

“The documentation is extensive, transparent, readable, fully searchable. You can view the data at any time. “

The attending physician can call all findings in close proximity to the patient, assess, and comment. Also networking must be possible, for example, the devices in Anaesthesia and intensive care, so that access to the patient data is possible at any time. Organisation wide Wi-Fi, is used explains Julian Polzin from the IT Department of the hospital. Encryption protects the data.

Implementation

Around 300 units are in use around the hospital Itzehoe with many of them within the ToughPAC special cases. As electronic devices that are always close to the patient, they must meet strict hygiene requirements. “The Tough-PACs can be easily cleaned and disinfected”, explains FIEGE.

Conclusion

All openings are protected with seals, which protect the device from dust and liquid. The durable hard shell of protective covers is also impact resistant and you can simply dock the unit in the charging station.

“We have tested all the possibilities – these covers are the most viable solution”, emphasizes FIEGE. “They have been with us for three years in operation and still not a single device has been broken.”
